What users are saying online about the Stihl battery operated chainsaw MSA 140 C
I bought this about 6 weeks ago for quick jobs around the farm to supplement my MS210 16″ gas saw. It is great just to use the ‘throttle’ to start it ( instead of starting a gas engine) particularly in cold weather. Also nice to be able to set it down to move cut limbs without leaving an idling engine on the ground. We have had lots of downed trees due to two snow storms and an ice storm, and it has cut everything well. I didn’t try it on big trees (2′ diameter)-I’ll use the ms210. The battery life is fantastic. I get tired before it needs recharging, doing these jobs that are a mixture of cutting and stacking. Also you don’t need tools to tighten the chain- that’s great in the field. The only downside is the need to check blade oil. On my gas saws the oil and gas last about the same time, so you do them both together. I’ve run this almost out of oil and the battery is still half charged. You need to check the oil frequently.
I sold my Stihl MS 271 Farm Boss not long ago with the intention of purchasing this MSA 140. I’m retired now by 5+ years but have used Stihl Professional Series tools for many years becoming accustomed to great quality and dependability. I reviewed it carefully as my needs have changed and felt somewhat comfortable in making the purchase. It has performed beyond my expectations! It’s rather aggressive, lightweight and very quiet. It certainly doesn’t have the power to match my former 271, but has more than enough to do the yard work and maintenance that I need it for. It took down two small oaks, limbed and bucked them very fast and used only half the battery charge in its first outing!
