About Black & Decker

While Black & Decker is a common household name today, they started with humble beginnings in 1910. Founded by S. Duncan Black and Alonzo G. Decker with only $1200 the small machine shop named Black & Decker Manufacturing Company would grow to be a powerhouse in the industry. In 1917 Black & Decker invented one of its most popular products, the portable electric drill and received the patent for the trigger switch and pistol grip design of its drill. Only nine years after Black & Decker was founded, they reached $1,000,000 in sales and by 1936 their stock is being traded on the New York Stock Exchange. In 2010 Black & Decker merged with Stanley Works to form Stanley Black & Decker Company and boasted sales of $11.1 billion and continue today to be a leader in the market.
